Summer of 2018 we were approached by our friends Mr & Mrs Ferguson who had a friend interested in an audio focused art car. The concept was abstract to begin with, but we eventually arrived on a loose concept of a “Luxury Space Yacht” for the driving artistic theme. The functional goal was to have a medium sized art car with capacity for 20 people on the roof deck and an exceptional quality sound system. Most importantly, our clients wanted to be able to transport, set up, operate and strike the whole thing without any of our support so we set out to design a completely turn key solution.
Over the next 7 months Tesseract handled the technical project management, mechanical design, all physical construction/assembly, testing and client training. Once the audio and electrical systems were in place, we started testing the assembly system. we wanted to go a step ahead of the clients self-supportive goal and have the entire art car go together with only hand tools, no heavy equipment needed. Although there were 10 frames on the lower body and 9 frames to create the shade structures, everything was designed to be movable by 2 people or picked up onto the car using frame mounted cable winches.
With all construction and testing completed, we held a training session over two days where the clients and their camp members were trained on every aspect of running the car, including assembly, audio, electrical, lighting and shipment.
Tesseract contracted with a number of other companies to complete the project
Digital Ambiance – LED Lighting & show system design
Audiowaska – Audio and Electrical systems
Danley Sound Labs – Speakers
Soul Mind Studios – CNC cutting
Ferguson Welding Services – Frame Welding
Dustin Passalalpi – Artistic Design
